Detroit

W 2013 r. Detroit oglosilo upadlosc. Spedzilismy miesiac w Detroit, poniewaz moj chlopak musial tam byc sluzbowo. Troche sie tam wynudzilam, mimo iz mieszkalismy w hotelu Marriott z pelnym dostepem do roznych udogodnien. Kolejna historia z Detroit, to historia pewnej fryzjerki- Polki, przemilej kobiety mieszkajacej w naprawde niebezpiecznej dzielnicy Detroit. Oczywiscie trudno sie dziwic jej spostrzezeniom z racji czasu, w ktorym opuszczala Polske. Doswiadczyalm rowniez pierwszy raz w zyciu goracego masazu.

We arrived to Detroit in Michigan after 14 hours of driving from North Carolina. Detroit is situated on the bank of the Detroit River, which connects St. Clair and Erie lakes. Detroit in the past had such a big concentration of Poles. Almost have a black population of Michigan lives in Detroit, what you can very easily notice. Districts inhabited by white people look different than those inhabited by black, first of all they are clean. You can very easily notice in Detroit a division for poor and rich people, blacks and whites, what is based on Detroit and whole Michigan state history. Detroit used to be the biggest car production center in the world. Detroit went bankrupt in 2013. We spent in Detroit one month, because my boyfriend went there for a business. I was a little bit bored in there despite the fact that we were living in Marriott hotel with bunch of amenities. We went for a Polish dinner on one Saturday to Polish National Church in Detroit. It was a meeting with Polish people who live in America for many years. We ate kotlet schabowy with cabbage, zurek, sausage and delicious cakes. I met there an older lady, and if I remember well she was about 80 years old. She lives in America for 26 years. She arrived here 26 years ago as a widow to visit her family in Detroit, and same time she met a Polish man, who already a US citizen. They got married after a few months, she got a Green Card, and her husband died after 6 years of marriage. She got a house and the rest of assets. She has never learned English. She was trying to get her adult children to the US, who stayed in Poland, but unfortunately despite her and her husband attempts children did not get a permit to go overseas... This lady advanced in years is alone in this big country, in this bankrupted city. She can on rely on herself. She said that she does not have a lot of friends there. She said "Thanks God, that just one speaks Polish here" when she heard that I speak Polish. She did open up and lamented to me. She told me that if she had just one child here, she would stay in America for the rest of her life, but longing for loved ones is stronger, and now she is trying to sell her house. As soon as she will do it, she gets on plane and she comes back to children, to Poland. I have another story from Detroit about a  such a nice Polish lady, who is a hairdresser and she lives in really dangerous district of Detroit, when we went to her saloon we had to knock to the  closed door, even though saloon was "open". The reason for that is the place where it is located. This lady lives in the US more than 40 years and she has her own hairdresser business. She told me that 40 years ago her husband, who is an alcoholic left house for work and he did not come back, because he had planned trip to the US. He never told her anything until he arrived to the US. The lady came to him after four years and she was very impressed of America. She thought that it is a beautiful country with many opportunities and success. I am not surprised that she had feelings like that, because of communist time when she was leaving Poland. She was working very hard in the US, she never learned English in school, only in everyday situation. She said that it was very hard, but it was worth to do that:) At the end she told me that no matter that she is in the US for a such long time, here is only her body, but her soul is still in Poland:) Let's say about my time in Detroit now... I hurt my spine, because I was swimming every day 40 minutes and doing 200 crunches. I went to hospital, because of the pain which I had and they prohibit me doing sport for a while. I also experienced first time in my life a hot massage.
