Tlusty czwartek/Fat Thursday:)

Czesc!

Dzisiaj Tlusty Czwartek! Majk zrobil wielkie oczy i zapytal mnie "Co to ten Tlusty Czwartek?" Donut to taki amerykanski paczek z dziurka. Donuty moga byc oblane lukrem albo czekolada.

Slodkiego obzarstwa wszystkim zycze!

Hi!

Today is Fat Thursday! It is a very Polish and very catholic holiday which is celebrated on last Thursday before Lent. It is the last chance for the carnival glutton until Easter :D Fat Thursday in the US is celebrated only in Polish communities as Chicago and New York. Most Americans do not know what paczki and Fat Thursday are. An example for that can be my husband. I told Mike yesterday that tomorrow will be a Fat Thursday so we have to buy donuts. Mike looked at me with big eyes and he asked, "What the hell is a Fat Thursday?" I explained him what's that and he said that it is an awesome holiday, especially that he loves donuts. He also told his boss this news and he also did not know what Fat Thursday is so he decided to do some research about it. I remember when last year I was flying from Charlotte, NC to Augusta in GA and I was sitting next to American who was flying back from Chicago on same day and he told me that he loves Chicago, because first it is not a New York, secondly because there are beautiful Polish women and thirdly he loves Chicago for paczki. Donut is an American paczek with a whole inside. Donuts can be dipped in chocolate or frosting. Theoretically I could bake some paczki or angel wings, but honestly I realized yesterday that tomorrow is Fat Thursday and I did not have enough time to do that... Maybe I will try to do it next year, especially that I have not impressed my husband with that yet, who is so proud to be married to Polish woman:) Today my Mom told me that apparently in Warsaw there is a confectionery where one American donut costs 5 PLN! For comparison... Here in Walmart 4 donuts cost around $2, with a 3,90 PLN exchange rate, which looks like you can have 4 donuts for around 7,80 PLN.

Have a sweet gluttony you all!

Film z wakacji Mamy i Michala w USA/A movie from Mom and Michal's vacation in the US

Czesc!

Mysle, ze niesamowity klimat temu fragmentowi nadaja zdjecia Nowego Jorku szczegolnie z podkladem muzycznym Stinga- Englishman in New York. Serdecznie zapraszam do obejrzenia! Jeszcze taka mala uwaga.... Wyslalam ostatnio link do tego filmu mojemu wujkowi, ktory nie mogl go otworzyc... Kilku innym osobom natomiast to sie udalo. Dajcie znac prosze, gdybyscie mieli jakies problem techniczne z obejrzeniem filmu. Bez sensu, zeby tu byl, skoro nie mozna go obejrzec. Mam jednak nadzieje, ze sie uda!

Pozdrawiam.

Hi!

Today I would like to share with you a movie of my Mom and my Brother's stay in the US. I made this movie about one month ago and as you can see it took me some time to upload it here :D At first it was a little bit unprofessional, I would like to inform you that in movie there is a small mistake, which I did not want to correct, because I realized that I did it when I already uploaded a movie on You tube... At the beginning of South Carolina photos accidentally I uploaded the flag of North Carolina, which also appears later. In the context of rectification I am uploading a flag of South Carolina in this post so you can see how it looks. This movie will not be sent for a movie festival. The aim of this movie is to remind and arouse cool, positive memories, and emotions. For that reason I hope my mistake will be forgiven :D My favorite part of the movie is New York. I think that its an awesome atmosphere, this part is made of New York's photos, especially with soundtrack of Sting and Englishman in New York. I cordially invite you all to watch this video! One more comment... Last time I sent a link of this movie to my Uncle and he could not open it... A few different people opened that. Please let me know if you will have any technical difficulties with watching this video. It does not make any sense of this movie to be here if its not able to watch it. However I hope everything will be fine!

Regards.

MARTA

NEW YORK CITY

Okolo polnocy wyladowalismy w Nowym Jorku. Moja mama i brat mieli dwie duze walizki i bagaze podreczne. Do Nowego Jorku mozna dojechac miedzy innymi pociagiem albo prywatnym autobusem. Ja juz kilka razy korzystalam z uslug NYC Airporter. Przesylam link do strony, tam mozna kupic bilety: http://www.nycairporter.com/. My troche pozwiedzalismy, zrobilismy troche zdjec, zjedlismy lunch i znalazla sie jeszcze chwila na zakupy. :)

Three beautiful weeks with Mom and Michal have passed and unfortunately a sad separation and coming back to reality time came... It is never easy to make... My family departure for Poland was planned for Monday, October 19th, 10:30 pm local time from JFK airport in New York. We decided to make a quick trip to New York City before they leave. Mike took us to the airport in Augusta, GA on Sunday, October 18th. Augusta is located on Georgia and South Carolina border. A flight to New York from Augusta was planned with a connection in Charlotte, NC. We landed in New York City before midnight. My Mom and my brother had two big luggage and carry-on luggage. We took with us the most needed stuff and the other things we left in luggage storage on terminal number 8, where we landed, and then we went to the hotel located near by the airport. An important information for all travelers to the US! If you have flights with connections and you have to wait for a long time for the next flight, but you also would like to take a trip to the heart of New York City without carrying a  luggage you might be interested in using a luggage storages, which are located, what I know at least on three different terminals at JFK. You can leave there your luggage for 24 hours or even longer. Prices are dependent on luggage size. The price in the place where we left our luggage was $18 per day, at the same place you can also book your hotel or take a cab. The next day we woke up early in the morning, had a breakfast in the hotel and went to terminal number 1 from where we took a bus to Manhattan. You can get to New York City with train or bus. I was using already a few times a NYC Airporter. Here is the link, where you can buy tickets: http://www.nycairporter.com/. If you plan to tour New York City, I recommend to get off at Penn Station, which is located close to the Empire State Building and generally everything is close by from there. A JFK airport is huge. There is 8 different terminals. You can get to terminals with train. A JFK airport as most of airports in the world is well marked so you can not lose in there. We were touring NYC, took some pictures, had a lunch there and we even found a time for a shopping. My Mom fell in love with New York City! She said that next time she has to spend there at least one week just for a shopping! We came back to JFK airport in afternoon... I had a very big pain in my heart when I had to say goodbye to my lovely Mom and my cute brother... I would prefer to take their passports and keep them in the US! It was the plan, but unfortunately it did not come true...:D I ran with tears in my eyes to terminal number 8 from where I flew to Charlotte, NC and then to Augusta, GA, where Mike and our dog were already waiting for me:) I think that those three weeks we used the best as we could... The most important thing was that we all were together... Mom and Michal liked America very much! Michal right away was planning to stay here forever...:) They loved Mike. My Mom said that he is a very good, smart, calm, funny, and family man. My Mom likes this "American" style, which are beautiful, practical houses, clean and neat yards, house decorations, house stuff, which are characteristic just for America... Poland kind of has "all" stuff, but some things here are definitely are more stylish, have a class...  I was always saying my Mom that food, gas, clothes, furniture prices are much lower in the US then in Poland... My Mom is still shocked after coming to America and see everything on her own how big price differences between Poland and US are... especially when we compare Polish and American incomes... My Mom said that in Poland we are simply robbed. It is ridiculous that same kitchen towel costs 30 PLN in Poland but in the US it costs 3 PLN after conversion... It is just sad... Mike's grandmother says: "Poland is my mother, America is a stepmother, but this stepmother is very good to me" :D I think this woman is right! My Mom was also impressed of American people mentality. She likes that Americans smile, also are friendly and talkative. They will not avoid a human for example on the street or in elevator. They do not complain  and grumble all time, they send a positive energy to their environments instead. Probably soon we will go to Poland and in the summer time we again expect my family here! I can't wait for that!

Nasz lot do Nowego Jorku i dla mnie z powrotem obslugiwaly linie lotnicze American Airlines. Michal uwielbia latac samolotami! Byl bardzo podekscytowany! Ja nie lubie latac malymi samolotami... Kiedy wsiadam do malego samolotu to wlaczaja sie we mnie jakies odruchy klaustrofobiczne... No ale niestety latac czasem trzeba...:D Takim samolotem lecielismy z Augusty do Charlotte.

Our flight to New York and my flight back were served by American Airlines. Michal loves to fly! He was so excited! I do not like small aircrafts... When I am getting on a small plane, I can feel some of claustrophobic reflexes... Unfortunately sometimes we just have to fly...:D On this plane we were flying from Augusta to Charlotte.

Tym samolotem lecielismy z Charlotte do Nowego Jorku. Tu czulam sie juz lepiej, bo i samolot wiekszy:)/On this plane we flew from Charlotte to New York. This plane is bigger so I was feeling better in there.

PLL LOT. Z nimi mama i Michal przylecieli do USA i tymi samymi liniami wrocili do Polski. Start i ladowanie sa prawie w ogole nieodczuwalne, turbulencje bardzo rzadko czuc, a gdy sie nawet pojawia to sa odczuwalne w niewielkim stopniu.

PLL LOT. Mom and Michal arrived to the US and left for Poland with this airline. My Mom was impressed of Dreamliner. She said that a flight on this aircraft it was a pleasure. I can also confirm that. I was flying on this plane few times and I really think it is a very high standard of the flight. Take off and landing are almost undetectable. Turbulences appears very rare. If they even exists it feels very slightly.
