Wielkanoc za pasem, a my jak zwykle w podrozy :D Tym razem ponioslo nas do stolicy Luizjany, Baton Rouge. Moze nie jest to do konca prawda, ze ponioslo nas tu z wlasnej woli, bo jestesmy tutaj w zwiazku z obowiazkami zawodowymi mojego meza, ale bardzo fajnie, ze nas tu przygnalo, bo ja w Baton Rouge nie bylam nigdy wczesniej, a przy okazji ominelo mnie przygotowywanie swiat w domu, w zamian za co na Wielkanoc rozkoszowalam sie smakami francuskiej Luizjany w restauracji:) Jak na zlosc w dzien wolny od pracy, taki jak Wielkanoc pogoda nie byla od rana wysmienita, a byla wrecz zwariowana, raz slonce, raz deszcz... Mimo wszystko udalo nam sie zobaczyc srodmiescie Baton Rouge, zjesc obiad w ogrodku jednej z restauracji, a po poludniu pojsc do kina na swieza produkcje Batman vs Superman: Swit sprawiedliwosci... Wiekszosc obiektow do zwiedzania bylo zamknietych z okazji swiat. Wielkanoc spedzilismy z dobrym kolega mojego meza, ktory na stale mieszka w Nowym Orleanie i stamtad tez przyjechal nas odwiedzic. Dystans miedzy Baton Rouge, a Nowym Orleanem to okolo 1 godzina jazdy samochodem. Wielkanoc w USA swietuje sie tylko w niedziele, nie ma dwoch dni swiat, nie ma suto zastawionych stolow, przedswiatecznego sprzatania, pieczenia, gotowania. Zamiast tego sa wyjscia do restauracji i rozne wyjazdy, co z reszta wspominalam juz w ubieglorocznym poscie Wielkanoc.
Wczesniej niejednokrotnie przejezdzalam przez Luizjane oraz nie jeden raz spedzalam czas w Nowym Orleanie, polozonym w tym stanie. Luizjana kojarzy mi sie przede wszystkim z wieloma obszarami bagiennymi i jeziorami, szczegolnie na wybrzezu. W tym roku Luizjana zostala dotknieta powodzia w zwiazku z bardzo duzymi opadami deszczu. Wiele domow zostalo zniszczonych lub bardzo mocno dotknietych zywiolem. Prezydent Obama zadeklarowalam katastrofe naturalna w tym stanie i obecnie pracuje tutaj FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), rzadowa organizacja od zarzadzania kryzysowego, ktora pomaga mieszkancom wrocic do normalnosci, refundujac straty oraz oczyszczajac i naprawiajac zniszczone otoczenie. Luizjana, a szczegolnie poludnie tego stanu jest bardzo narazone na katastrofy naturalne, takie jak powodz, ktore czesto sie tutaj zdarzaja. Przypominam, ze w sierpniu 2005 roku Luizjane nawiedzil jeden z najbardziej morderczych huraganow, jakie mialy miejsce w historii Stanow Zjednoczonych, a mianowicie Katrina. Huragan ten zniszczyl 80% Nowego Orleanu, ktory polozony jest ponizej poziomu morza. Wszystkie waly przeciwpowodziowe zostaly przebite. Zgnielo prawie dwa tysiace osob. Ciala ludzkie plywaly ulicami. Wujek mojego meza, ktory jest rodowitym mieszkancem Nowego Orleanu do dzis wspomina to nieszczescie ze lzami w oczach i opowiada, ze w jego domu woda stala pod sufit po przejsciu Katriny.
W tych postach wspominam o Luizjanie: Nowy Orlean, Bourbon Street, Nowy Orlean, Luizjana (NOLA).

Easter, and we are on way, as always :D This time we went to Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana state. It is not exactly a truth, that we came here on our own will, because we are here of my husband business duties, but still its so cool that we came here, because I have never been to Baton Rouge before, and I avoided an Easter arrangements at home:) This way I could enjoy flavors of French Louisiana for Easter at restaurant:) As the anger on the day off as an Easter the weather was not that well, it was rather crazy, one moment it was raining,another moment was sunny... Even than we were able to see a downtown of Baton Rouge, eat a dinner at the garden of one of the restaurant, and in afternoon we went to see a new movie production Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice... Most of objects to see were closed, because of the Easter. Easter we spent with my husband's good friend, who permanently lives in New Orleans and he came from there to visit us. A distance between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is like an hour of driving. Easter in the US is celebrated only on Sunday. There is no two days of holiday. There are no tables laden with food, pre-Easter cleaning, baking, cooking, instead of these people go to restaurants or go somewhere for vacation, what I already mentioned in last year Easter post.
I was driving through Louisiana not once, and not one time I was spending time in New Orleans, which is located in this state. Louisiana reminds me of swamp and lake areas, especially on the coast. This year Louisiana was touched by a flooding in result of very big raining. Lot of houses got destroyed or seriously damaged. President Obama declared a natural disaster in this state and now FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is working here, helping people to come back to normal life by financing damages and cleaning the environment. Louisiana, especially the south of this state is in a very big danger of natural disasters, as flooding, which happen here often. I just wanted to remind you, that in August 2005 Louisiana got hit by one of the most murderous hurricane in history of the United States. It was a hurricane Katrina. This hurricane destroyed 80% of New Orleans, which is located below sea level. All embankments got damaged, almost two thousands died. People bodies were flowing on streets. My husband's uncle, who is a native inhabitant of New Orleans mentions with tears in his eyes until now this misfortune. He told me, that after Katrina, a water in his house was reaching the ceiling.

Now, let's write a few words about Baton Rouge...
Baton Rouge it is a French name, which in English means "Red Stick". A French explorer named this city like this, from the red pole, which was a boundary between Houma and Bayogoula tribal. French names, architecture, food are still here remains of French Louisiana colonizers. Baton Rouge is a second largest city in Louisiana state, right after New Orleans. Since a Baton Rouge is a capital of Louisiana, it is also a political center of this state. Baton Rouge is an industrial, petrochemical, medical, research and technology center of southern States. Europeans, exactly French started to settle in Baton Rouge in 1721. Since Europeans settlement, Baton Rouge was governed by French, English and Spaniards. At that time Baton Rouge was famous for trade and transportation. Baton Rouge became a capital of Louisiana in 1846, and same time it replaced a "sinful" New Orleans. Baton Rouge population in 2005, after hurricane Katrina hit started to constantly increase in result of people migration from damaged areas. Baton Rouge is located on banks of Mississippi river in southern Louisiana, and it is the third southernmost, continental capital after Austin, TX and Tallahassee, FL. Baton Rouge is located in humid, subtropical climate. Baton Rouge is a mix of Creoles, Cajun, Baptist and Southern Mississippi culture. Every year in Baton Rouge takes place a famous festival of Mardi Grass. Zeby tradycji stalo sie zadosc, w warunkach turystycznych udalo mi sie przygotowac jajka faszerowane na wielkanocne sniadanie, zanim wyruszylismy na miasto:) Jak zwykle zatrzymalismy sie w apartamentach hotelu Marriott, gdzie do dyspozycji mamy kuchnie, ale gotowanie w hotelowej kuchni, gdzie zazwyczaj znajduje sie tylko podstawowy sprzet kuchenny to nie to samo co w warunkach domowych:)
For tradition has been done, in tourist conditions I made stuffed eggs for Easter breakfast before we left hotel for the town:) As always we stayed at Marriott suites, where we have a kitchen for our disposition, but cooking in a hotel kitchen, where usually they provide guests with a basic equipment is not same as a cooking at home:)
