Dzisiaj w Stanach obchodzony jest Dzien Pracy, tzw. Labor Day. Jest to swieto narodowe, ktore przypada na pierwszy poniedzialek wrzesnia i honoruje Amerykanski ruch robotniczy oraz jego wklad w sile, dobrobyt oraz powodzenie kraju. Labor Day promowany byl przez Central Labor Union i Knights of Labor, ktore zorganizowaly pierwsza parade w Nowym Jorku. Po masakrze w Haymarket w Chicago (strajk robotnikow, brutalnie stlumiony przez policje) 4 maja 1886 roku, Prezydent Stanow Zjednoczonych Grover Cleveland w obawie, ze data 1 maja moze stac sie okazja do ponownych zamieszek, przeniosl Labor Day na wrzesien. Labor Day w Kanadzie jest rowniez swietowany w pierwszy poniedzialek wrzesnia. Ponad 80 krajow na swiecie obchodzi ten dzien 1 maja. Labor Day weekend czesto nieoficjalnie konczy sezon letni i zaczyna sezon futbollu amerykanskiego. Colleges i high schools graja swoje pierwsze mecze w sezonie. W tym czasie w sklepach jest najwiecej wyprzedazy i rabatow zaraz po Black Friday, czyli piatku po Swiecie Dziekczynienia. Ironicznie z powodu waznosci sprzedazy w tym okresie, pracownicy nie tylko pracuja, ale pracuja nawet dluzej niz powinni.

 

Today in the United States is celebrated Labor Day. This holiday falls on first Monday of September and honors an American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. Labor Day was promoted by the Central Labor Union and Knights of Labor, who organized the first parade in New York City. After the Haymarket Massacre in Chicago (laborers strike brutally repressed by the police) on May 4th, 1886, the President of the United States Grover Cleveland feared that May 1 might be a reason for the next riots, pushed forward a Labor Day for September. Labor Day in Canada is also celebrated on first Monday of September. More than 80 countries in world celebrate Labor Day on May 1. Labor Day weekend often unofficially ends a summer season and starts the American football season. Colleges and high schools play their first matches. During the Labor Day time in the stores there are lot of sales and discounts. Retailers say that it is the largest sale day, second only after Black Friday. Ironically, because of the importance of the sale weekend, some of those who are employed in the retail sector, not only work on Labor Day, but work longer hours.
