Zakupy spozywcze w USA/Grocery shopping in the US

Czesc!

Jesli jadam mieso to zazwyczaj chude i grillowane. Porownujac te ceny do polskich cen, proponuje abyscie wyobrazili sobie taki przyklad: Amerykanin zarabia miesiecznie $2000 i Polak, ktory zarabia 2000 zl.

Dzien Swietego Patryka

MIAMI, FLORYDA

Hi!

I thought that today I will share with you costs of grocery shopping in the US. If somebody plans a trip to the US on his/her own, I think that this knowledge here will be accurate:) My husband and I grocery shop once a week. Grocery shopping we do at Walmart or Food Giant. It depends on day. Prices in those stores are similar. As  I mentioned before Walmart is the most popular supermarket in the US, where you can buy everything, for example bread, guns and kayaks. Food Giant is a local store in Bainbridge, GA, where only groceries are sold. We usually shop there for a meat, because it seems to be relatively fresh in there. In spring and summer time we try to buy fruits and vegetable at the farm. I mentioned in this post that I try to lead a healthy lifestyle, which is a healthy eating and working out. I always had a limited trust for different grocery products, but last time it increased so badly, especially if I think about meat, which I started to limit in my diet very much. I have never eaten a lot of meat. Fat meat is not acceptable for me at all. If I eat a meat it is usually a not very fat meat and its grilled. It is very sad frightening how manufactures of food are ruthless by adding to food all of these horrible stuff. I feel sometimes, that it is dangerous to eat fruits and vegetables, which are ruthlessly pesticides and what about the meat, which is stuffed with antibiotics, hormones, chemistry, oil, water, and others. I think, that if places with a fresh meat without any extra, unhealthy stuff exist, its for sure not much of them. I personally do not know places like this and I have to need to get know them... I heard that the most strong man in the world is the one who eats vegetables and nuts, and lately I am following this direction. I do not say, that I completely eliminated meat, because from time to time it happens, that I eat meat, especially at the restaurant, but I am not going to crazy with that... I prepare meat according to my husband whims, who is absolutely not fussy, he appreciates everything, what I make for him, but as every man sometimes he likes to eat a piece of good meat:) We usually spend weekly between $80 and $140 for grocery shopping, no more and for the rest of the week I do not show up at the store. Every week obviously look different, sometimes I buy products such as: oil, sugar, flour, peanut butter, coffee, tea, which last for a longer period of time. We usually buy a big box of eggs, so it  also last longer time, sometimes up to two weeks. As I wrote above, a two person family as ours can healthy feed them for $80-$140 weekly. This price bracket includes meat, dairy, grain, fruits, vegetables, sweets, and drinks products. Comparing these prices to Polish prices I suggest you to imagine an example like this: American makes $2000 monthly and Pole, who makes 2000 PLN. An American spends weekly for food $100, to feed his/her two people family, so monthly he spends for food about $400. Can you feed in Poland two people family for 100 PLN, include buying meat, vegetables, fruit, milk, eggs, bread, sweets? You need to answer for this question on your own, because I do not have a good comparison while I am grocery shopping in the US. My Mom, who visited us last year and was doing grocery shopping with me told me, that food prices comparing to American earnings are not high.My Mom told me, that now in Polish store 50 PLN is like 5 PLN, you can buy for this some things, but really nothing special. People spend 50 PLN very easily. If you plan a trip to the US, with self-catering, as far as I know you would need for 2-3 people about 400 PLN weekly, according to the current exchange rate, which is about 3.80 PLN, 3.90 PLN, assuming, that you want to eat healthy and homemade food. Buying every day meals in bars or restaurant would be for sure more expensive then buying products for food, which you can make on your own. I present under my sample grocery list. I was shopping in Walmart, so you can see exactly what I bought, how much it costs and what I made of these products. I think, that it is worth to mention, that $80-$140 price bracket includes also cleaning detergents, laundry detergents, soaps, shampoos, tooth pastes. I do not buy those things every week, because when I buy them at one time, they will last me for a few weeks.

I got a rush of inspiration to publish this post two days after I did grocery shopping from the list under and unfortunately I threw away receipt:( I do grocery shopping that often, that I remember prices of some products, but when I had doubts while writing this post, I was looking up prices online on Walmart website, so all information in here is reliable and current.

My grocery list.

- Bean(dry in bag, to cook, 400 g) $2.36

Plyny do prania/Laundry detergents

Tutaj wszyscy uzywaja plynow do prania. Ja oczywiscie tez. Proszki do prania sa skuteczniejsze w usuwaniu brudu, natomiast nie sa zbyt zdrowe. W proszkach najczesciej wystepuja toksyczne fosforany, fosforaty i polikarboksylaty. By ulatwic pranie do proszkow dodawane sa rowniez enzymy rozkladajace zabrudzenia bialkowe i tluszczowe, wybielacze i inne substancje pomocnicze. Czasami uzywa sie tutaj kapsulki do prania.

Did you know that in the United States people do not use washing powders? Here everybody uses  washing liquids and now I also use it. Washing powders are more effective in removing a dirt then washing liquids, but they are not that healthy. Most of the time in powders there are a lot of toxic phosphates and polycarboxylates. To make a washing an easier process, to washing powders are also added, bleaches, enzymes, which degrades protein and fatty dirt and other helpful stuff. All of those things might cause a health problems as irritation of the skin and different allergic reactions. Washing liquids are more safe for our health, because they are not that much stuffed with the chemists. They are not that much effective to remove a dirt. Based on my experience I can say that clothes of the people who do not work in dirty jobs they are not really dirty or stained. Clothes are usually not fresh and sweated. In this case scenario there is no sense to use a chemist stuffed washing powder instead of health friendly washing liquid. Washing liquids do not leave marks like sometimes washing powders do. I have not seen in the United States that somebody uses a washing powder... Sometimes people here use capsules. I also noticed that Americans use only bleach to wash white clothes. Bleach is also not that healthy for us. According to Belgian scientists bleach can decrease children's immune system. We should remember that all of the cleaning purpose stuff, which we buy to keep our house clean, contains a lot of chemists, which are surly not good for our health. Despite all attestations, certifications and label information I don't trust them so much and I prefer to stay careful. I try to limit using chemist in my house. If I use some of this chemist, after cleaning I always remember to ventilate my house and let some fresh air to come in.

On this picture you can see in a little box, tissues, which are put to the washing machine. The aim of those tissues is to prevent electric static and make clothes smell nice.

Przeprowadzka do Bainbridge w stanie Georgia:)/Moving to Bainbridge, GA

Nazwa stanu zostala nadana na czesc krola Jerzego II Hanowerskiego (George II of Great Britain). Georgia byla jedna z trzynastu kolonii, ktore zbuntowaly sie przeciwko panowaniu brytyjskiego, co przyczynilo sie do rewolucji amerykanskiej. Poczatkowo Georgia byla kolonia hiszpanska. W Georgii panuje klimat morski, tropikalny, miejscowi mowia, ze generalnie lato trwa tu jedenascie i pol miesiaca :D Georgia ma przydomek Cesraskiego Stanu Poludnia, a takze nazywana jest Stanem brzoskwiniowym, ze wzgledu na to, ze wystepuje tu bardzo duzo drzewek brzoskwiniowych (my mamy dwa drzewa brzoskwiniowe na naszym podworku):) Z Georgii pochodzil Martin Luther King, a takze Julia Roberts i Jimmy Carter.

Bainbridge to miasto w hrabstwie Decatur polozone nad rzeka Flint, jedna z glownych rzek w Georgii. Populacja tego miasta to 12 000, z czego polowe stanowia czarni. Historia Bainbridge siege 1829 roku, kiedy to miasto zostalo zalozone przez komandora U.S Navy- William'a Bainbridge'a.
Havelock w Polnocnej Karolinie, czyli miejsce gdzie mieszkalismy dotychczas bylo dosc nowym miastem. Kiedy przyjechalismy tutaj 4 marca, zanim dobralam sie do moich letnich ubran i butow, pomagalam rozpakowywac Majkowi nasza ciezarowke z zapakowanym domem z Havelock w sniegowcach i bluzce na ramiaczka:)

My mamy dom na zewnatrz miasta.

Georgia slynie rowniez z tego, ze wszyscy pija tu herbate z lodem:) Would you like some sweet tea? :D

Mialam tez juz okazje odwiedzic Kosciol Metodystyczny, o ktorym rozpisywalam sie we wczesniejszym poscie:)

W Bainbridge kupilam rowniez w cale 15 minut swoja suknie slubna :D Najpierw weszlam do jednego sklepu nic mi sie nie podobalo:) Weszlam do drugiego sklepu, spodobala mi sie sukienka i wraz z przymiarka zakup sukienki zajal mi wlasnie wspomniane 15 minut:)

We moved to Bainbridge, Georgia on March 4th. My husband makes jokes that we moved to the South so he can warm up his old veteran bones. Georgia is a state in South East part of the United States. Georgia boarders to the north with Tennessee, on east with South Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean, on south with Florida and on west with Alabama. A northern part of Georgia is located in Appalachian mountains and a South part is in the Piedmont mountains. The Georgia name was given in honor of king George  II of Great Britain. Georgia was one of the thirteen colonies, which rebelled against a British domination and at the end it was one of the causes of an American revolution. At the beginning Georgia was a Spanish colony. In Georgia there is a tropical maritime climate. Local people say that summer in Georgia last 11.5 months. Georgia has an Imperial Southern State nickname and also Georgia is called a Peach State, because there are a lot of peach trees. We have two peach trees on our yard. Martin Luther King Jr., Julia Roberts and President Jimmy Carter all come from Georgia.

Bainbridge is the largest city located in a Decatur county, on the Flint river. A Flint river is a one of the main river systems in Georgia. Bainbridge population is 27,000 and half are blacks. The city history is connected with the foundation of the city by U.S Navy commander William Bainbridge in 1829. Havelock in North Carolina was quite a modern town. Bainbridge is a typical American town, but it is also a vintage town because of the foundation years. First when I got here, I was feeling like I am at the American western, but it has passed. Every day we explore new places in Bainbridge and it is very exciting. From Bainbridge to capital of Florida which is a Tallahassee there is a distance of 30 minutes. To the border with the state of Alabama there is a distance of 15 minutes. We can have life in three different states same time. White sand beaches at the Gulf of Mexico are located 1.5 hours distance from our house. We don't need to look for the sun so far anymore:) Disney World is four hours of driving from us. New Orleans, the place of never ending party is six hours of driving from  us:) Atlanta, the capital of Georgia is located about four hours of driving from us. I love Georgia because of hot weather! Here is incredibly warm! When we got to Georgia on March 4th before I found my summer clothes in big truck, I was helping Mike to unload truck in dressed in summer t-shirt and winter boots:)

Our house is located out of the city limit. Here is very calm compared to the previous place of residence, where almost every day we were able to hear flying military aircrafts from Cherry Point. Our new house is big, spacious, and in bright colors. Here we start our new, married life with a  faithful racist dog, who attacks all blacks and we also have two cats:)

Bainbridge is a historical place, but you also will find there whatever you want as different stores, hotels, restaurants, cafes... We already have our favorite café, where we start our days with delicious coffee. Every place where we go and say that we are new here and we just moved, people welcome us with big hearts, which is very nice:) Other thing is of course the Southern accent! People here speak slower as if they chew gum. One time I heard from an American from Texas a sentence, "I am from the South, my English is a garbage" :D Americans from the South are very polite, nice, and helpful. We can really notice that as we go to Walmart and everybody says hello, how are you doing today?Isn't it nice? Honestly, I think that in Poland it is impossible. First day when we got to Georgia, under the hood in our car fell some kind of belt. We did not stay at the road even for five minutes. Every other car was stopping to ask if we need a help. It took one hour to have this issue done. One man stopped and gave me a $25 Visa gift card to improve my mood:)

Georgia is famous that everybody drinks here an ice sweet tea. Would you like some sweet tea? :D

I already visited the Methodist church that I mentioned about before.

I bought in Bainbridge my wedding dress and it took me about 15 minutes:) I went to the first store and I did not like anything. I went to the second store and I liked one. I tried it on and together it took me mentioned 15 minutes to get a wedding dress:)

Farma- Wirginia/A farm in Virginia

Ostatnio odwiedzilismy rodzine Michael’ a na farmie w Virginii, w hrabstwie Orange. Z Havelock do Virginii jechalismy okolo 5h. Wlasciciele farmy hoduja glownie krowy i konie. Wyjazd zaliczam do udanych :)

Last time we visited Michael's family on farm in Orange county in Virginia. We were driving from Havelock to Virginia about 5 hours. A farm, which we visited has about 60 ha and it is worth about $500 000. It is so big, that you can not see the end. Owners of the farm mainly breed cows and horses. They also sell hay. My personality loves a simple life, that's why I fell in love with this farm. This farm is a complete wilderness, same as most places here, which does not change the fact, that still it is so beautiful. The closest WALMART is located about 45 minutes away, so if the inhabitants of the farm go to the store its once and neatly with a long grocery list :D You you like a silence, peace, wood, lakes you will for sure relax on this farm. A gallon of gas in Orange, VA costs $3.09, when in Havelock, NC it costs almost $3.40. One American gallon is 3.78 liter. I also had an occasion to boast of my culinary skills. I served to American family a Polish golabki. Michael's uncle told me that I do not have to go home, but if I really want to, next time I should just come without Michael :D I also tried an American country food, called REDNECK, which is a very fat and delicious meat. Winters in Virginia are sometimes very cold, it snowing sometimes up to 2 meters of snow. We were invited for a monthly, winter hunting in Virginia. It was my first time on farm like this and it was a good time.

Moje zycie w Karolinie Polnocnej:)/My life in North Carolina

Havelock to miasto w Craven County. W miescie tym znajduje sie najwieksza na swiecie baza lotnicza piechoty morskiej- Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point i Marine Aircraft Wing. Latajace nad domami samoloty to standard.

At the beginning of July 2014 I arrived to Havelock in North Carolina, a state located in south eastern part of the US. North Carolina from the north borders with Virginia, from the south with Georgia and South Carolina, and from the west with Tennessee. This state stretches from eastern Atlantic Ocean to western Appalachian Mountains. The capital of North Carolina is Raleigh. A state is located in subtropical climate, and on coast in tropical climate. Summarizing local climate, summer is always hot and there is a high humidity. The average temperature in winter time is 19 Celsius degrees, and its raining often. North Carolina is always very green, leafs never falls from trees. A specific tree for this state is pine tree.

Havelock is a town in Craven County, where located is the largest Marine Corps base in the world. It is called Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and Marine Aircraft Wing. Flying planes over houses it is a standard. At the beginning wen I was hearing a flying plane with this big bang, I thought that maybe it is the end of the world? or maybe war? but I got used to it. Now Mike and I sometimes sitting on the porch and he explains me stories about different planes, which flies over our house :):) Since here is a Marines base, this town is very safe. We do not lock the car at the store, sometimes we do not lock the house, because apparently there is no need for that. The presence of base has also minuses, for example prices of food, gas, furniture, cars are much higher than nearby towns as New Bern or Newport. I heard that Marines are stupid and they pay every price. Everything is going around Cherry Point. This is a part of the name of one car dealer, here is also a strip bar with same name. This strip bar is located next to the high school :D Last time I met a stripper from this place. She makes such a good money, of course mostly she gets paid from Marines. I am not going to try this job :D This is a next issue: http://cherrypointyardsales.com/, here you can buy different used stuff for the house, sometimes really cheap and in good quality. YARD SALE is very popular in the US, and all Americans are impressed of that. You can clean up your house and same time earn a few bucks. Havelock is a typical American town, which we associates with an American movies despite the fact that there is a Marines base. Beautiful cardboard houses around :D Beautiful green grass, mail boxes, the lack of fences and gates, which I love! and lot of trucks on streets, mostly CHEVROLET brand. Everybody is driving car here, even if there is 5 minutes of walk to the store. They do it, probably because gas is very cheap in here :D We do shopping in WALMART, it is a popular supermarket in whole United States, where 90% of products come from China. Last time we were in the bank and a friend, who is the manager of this bank was serving us and sitting at the desk with American flag in background (in the US  flags are everywhere!). Michael told him that he looks very nice with this flag, almost like in military. The manager of this bank told us a story of buying this flag. He went to the store to buy an American flag, he looked and saw on the shelf an American flag "MADE IN CHINA". He thought that as a patriot he just can't buy an American flag "MADE IN CHINA". He went looking for another flag, until he found one:) My favorite store in the US is DOLLAR TREE. I have never seen a better store than that. I think it is even better than IKEA! You can buy there different things, useful for the house and everything costs just $1! I bought there sets of different glasses and plates. The result is awesome and everything cost me really not much. Now there is a fall collection and I am already completing it! I noticed, based on my observation that it is profitable to live in the US. A person makes money, spend it and still has an opportunity to save some of it. There is no problem with jobs, diplomas are appreciated. We live in a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by tress, where the main street is very close. I can get on bike and ride to McDonald, Burger King, KFC or Subway:) All of fast foods are close :D There are also another, typical American restaurants with red checkered tablecloth, where you can eat ribs, and other clubs, where you can dance, play billiards or listen to country music:) We like a Mexican restaurant, where we always order a huge glass of margarita, which we never can finish and when we leave a restaurant we are kind of drunk :D I also like a Chinese buffet, where you pay $7 per person and you can eat as much as you can, with no limit. I eat there a lot of delicious shrimps. We go sometimes to Ziggy's cafe/restaurant, which serves only breakfasts. We usually eat there pancakes with bacon. I like this American atmosphere there:) Two PAWN SHOPS are in town, where we buy movies for $1. Every Sunday we go to Catholic church ANNUNCIATION CATHOLIC PARISH- http://annunciationparish.org/. Masses there are so beautiful. I think that religious songs in English sound much better than in Polish. There is no organ, there is a guitar instead and you want to sit there for that. At the beginning of the mass priest always welcomes everybody by saying "Good morning", and than he asks if today we have any guests from other parishes. If there is anyone like this, this person needs to stand up and introduce to everybody, say where he or she comes from. Priest also asks if somebody has a birthday today. If yes, then he says "Happy birthday" to this person. After this little intro everybody in benches has to shake their hands and say "Good morning" or "Nice to meet you". It was strange to me at the beginning, but than I got used to it. Last Sunday, a mass was leading by an Italian priest, and it seemed like no one understood him, even he was trying to speak English :D I noticed that he missed "I believe in God" prayer, probably because of stress. Italian priest realized during the mass that he does not have a main book, and he also did not have any acolyte to help him so he left the mass and people and he went looking for a book, but he came back :D It was pretty funny :D Priest always stands next to the door after a mass and he blesses leaving church parishioners:) People usually stand in line to priest to talk to him a little bit:) The place to be here is ATLANTIC BEACH! I love this beach, I love this place... always when I am in bad mood, it is a best medicine for me:):) As soon as I get there I get some good energy:) A beach is bog and calm. There is not many people. Water is warm, salty and blue:) There are sometimes big waves, sometimes water is like a soup, that you can sit there like in bath tub, what I do a lot while being there:)

A to wlasnie kosciol, do ktorego sobie chodzimy :)/It is a church, where we go:)
