Mam takie wrazenie, ze ostatnio na moim blogu malo pojawia sie informacji strike o zyciu w USA, mam tu na mysli zalatwianie spraw w urzedach, relacje miedzyludzkie, robienie zakupow itp... Tak sie nad tym zastanawialam i doszlam do wniosku, ze wszystko mi tu tak znormalnialo, tak bardzo czuje sie jakbym tu mieszkala od zawsze, ze ciezko mi pisac o tym jako o czyms innym, nadzwyczajnym... Zlapalam sie rowniez na tym, ze zaczynam zapominac jak pewne rzeczy wygladaja w Polsce... Ostatnio mialam taka sytuacje, ze zapytalam moja kolezanke Jagode "To my mamy takie slodycze w Polsce?" kiedy poczestowala mnie czekolada, ktora dostala w paczce na swieta od mamy. Po 2,5 roku w Stanach czuje sie tutaj jak w domu, do ktorego zawsze nalezalam... A co tu pisac o codziennej rutynie i normalnosci? :D Ciezko byloby mi odpowiedziec na pytanie osoby, ktora nigdy nie byla w Stanach "Jak tam jest w tej Ameryce?" Mysle, ze latwiej byloby dac odpowiedz osobie, ktora przyleciala tu na dwa tygodnie lub miesiac wakacji i przezyla nagly szok kulturowy i jest w stanie zauwazyc roznice... Ja juz po malu nie zauwazam pewnych roznic miedzy Polska, a USA, ktore na pewno istnieja. Czas robi swoje. Gdybym miala opowiadac osobie, ktora nigdy nie byla w USA jak tutaj jest to chyba musialabym sporzdzic sobie plan poszczegolnych tematow, a rozwiniecie tych tematow na pewno nie byloby krotkie... No zobaczymy jak to dalej pojdzie, moze trafia mi sie jakies interesujace tematy, ktore okaza sie strike o zyciu tutaj i bede w stanie sie wypowiedziec/wypisac na ich temat:)

"Ruby's pantry", czyli po polsku "Spizarnia Ruby" to organizacja non profit, ktora istnieje w stanach Minnesota oraz Wisconsin. Celem tej organizacji jest eliminowanie glodu, chorob wsrod ubozszych , szczegolnie na terenach wiejskich oraz poprawa jakosci ich zycia. Organizacja ta pomagala miedzy innymi ubogiej ludnosci w Meksyku, zbierajac dla nich jedzenie oraz zabawki dla dzieci. Ruby wyznawala zasade, ze jesli masz tyle, ze wystarcza dla Ciebie to masz za malo, bo powinienes miec tyle, zeby podzielic sie jeszcze z innymi.

Do tej pory na Ruby's pentry bylam dwa razy i zauwazylam, ze mnostwo ludzi korzysta z tej okazji. Czasami sa tam niesmaowite kolejki, ktore na szczescie ida dosc szybko. Eventy tego typu na pewno odbywaja sie w innych miastach w Minnesocie in Wisconsin. Dokladne lokalizacje mozecie znalezc tutaj. Jesli mieskzacie w USA w innych stanach to mozecie sie zorientowac czy prowadzone sa tam podobne akcje, bo naprawde sie oplaca. Za pierwszym razem trzeba sie zarejestrowac. I kind of feel like recently on my blog there is not many posts restrictively about life in the US. I think about topics such as to get things done in offices, people relationship, shopping and others... I was thinking about that and I made a conclusion that everything became so normal here for me, that much that I fell like I have been living here forever and it is hard to write about that like it was something different, extraordinary... I caught myself that I become to forget how some things look like in Poland... Recently I had a situation that I asked my friend Jagoda "Do we have candy like that in Poland?" when she treated me with a chocolate which she received from her mother for Christmas. I feel like at home where I always belonged after this 2.5 years in the US... And what is there interesting to write about the routine and normal stuff? :D It would be hard for me to answer the question "How is America?" to the person who has never been to the US. I think that it would be easier to give an answer the person who came to the US for two weeks or a month of vacation and experienced a cultural shock, and is able to notice differences... I slowly do not notice some differences between Poland and US which for sure exist. Time goes on and does its job. If I had to explain about the US to the person who has never been to the US I would have to make a plan of different topics related to the US and I am sure that the explication of those topics would not be short... We will see how it all is going to go... Maybe I will get some interesting subjects about living in the US and I will be able to say/write about them:)
Today I will share with you some information about Ruby's pantry which is a food bank. I am not sure if this kind of organization exists in Poland?
Ruby's pantry it is a non profit organization which exists in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The goal of this organization is to eliminate the hunger, diseases, poverty, and increase quality of people life especially in the rural areas. This organization was helping, for example, poor people in Mexico by giving them food and toys. The name of this organization comes from the woman who's name was Ruby and she was living in Western Wisconsin. She had a very big garden and the harvest from there she was sharing with people who needed a help. Ruby believed that if you have enough just for yourself you do not have enough. You should have that much so you can share it with other people who need help.
I am writing today about Ruby's pantry, because in city of Marshall where we live the last every Thursday of the month takes place Ruby's pantry in Armory. Products given to people comes from local stores such as Walmart or Hy-Vee and those products are out of expiration date or they are close to expiration date. They can not be sold in the store anymore, but it does not exactly means that they are not good to consume. The entrance to Ruby's pantry costs $20. If we will visit this pantry for 12 times, the 13 time will be free. People usually come for this event with laundry buckets, because they are big and comfortable. I found out about Ruby's pantry of course from Jagoda somewhere at the beginning of November. We went there together not because we are poor and we do not have anything to eat, but because we were curious what they offer, how it all looks like, maybe we will like it, and maybe $20 will cover something cool especially that Ruby's pantry is available for everybody, no matter of the social status even though as I mentioned before it is for sure a good option for poor people... It turned out that we got back ours $20 very fast. We got a big package of toilet paper, a huge amount of bread which you can easily freeze, frozen pizzas, drinks, milk, healthy snacks, salads, chips, meat, hams and lot of other things... I was already twice at Ruby's pantry and I noticed that lot of people takes advantage of this occasion. There are extremely long lines sometimes, but fortunately they go fast. This kind of events for sure take place in other towns in Minnesota. and Wisconsin. Exact location you can find here. If you live in other states you can orientate if there are similar actions. It is for sure worth it! At the first time you have to register. Registration involves filling out the application where you have to give you basic information.
